Comparative analysis of the sustainability and seismic performance of a social interest house using RC moment frames and bahareque as structural systems

This study compares the seismic performance and environmental impact of a social housing structure designed with reinforced concrete using Guadua angustifolia “Kunth” cane. The aim is to contrast implementation an ecological material such as cane, which accessible alternative due its cost construction time, versus traditional (RC) method. Both applied structures. both methods analyzed through nonlinear static analysis (pushover) objective establishing performance; structural nonstructural damage, point, maximum displacements, elements that induce failure; acting forces, against design earthquake (established by NEC DS 2015 Standard), return period 475 years. evaluated life cycle assessment (LCA). Thus, embodied carbon obtained from each element (foundations, beams, columns, floors, roof support elements) was determined, considering manufacturing, transportation, construction. results demonstrated higher performance, 70% less on cane structure.
